Visiting the Magical world of Kastle Kelm Miniatures! πŸŽƒ

Welcome to the world of Kastle Kelm Miniatures!

I was really lucky to visit the Thame dolls house fair this month and meet up with Mike and Jenny of Kastle Kelm miniatures. I have been a fan of their amazing work for quite a few years now and I am lucky to own a small collection of their work, including a wonderful sculpture of Grotbags! What I love about the Kelm's is their passion for creating miniatures that are unusual, enchanting and at times created with a great sense of humour! There is always something new to see at each of their fairs and everything is made with love and a sprinkle of magic!

This fabulous tribute to Grotbags is in my collection and one of my favourites!
Jenny Kelm kindly made time in her very busy schedule to give me a little interview which I hope you all enjoy.

How long have you been doing miniature making and what got you into making miniatures especially making Witches and Gnomes?
We've been making Miniatures for dolls house shows for 10 years. Before that I was in a dolls house group making odd bits and pieces which usually ended up being 'witch themed' whatever we were making! The Gnomes followed much later and were inspired by my books,
Brian Froud, Jean Baptiste-Monge, Terry Pratchett to name a few!

Wonderful gnome with a real old pipe! One of a wide range of amazing characters you will see on Kastle Kelm's stall.

What items do you like making the most?
I like making characters large and small! At the moment I'm enjoying trying to make people that buyers may recognise such as Phillip Serrell and Monty Dom.

Jenny is hoping to add more of these star studded characters to her fairs this year.

A smaller Monty Dom doing a spot of gardening!

Charlie Dimmock as seen at the Thame dolls house fair.
What or who inspires your work?
I am inspired mainly by book illustrations and things you see in the 'Normal' world but I like to add a twist on them to make them more fantasy themed.

Not only will you find sculptures on Kastle Kelm's stall but also beautifully intricate paintings all done by Jenny Kelm.

Do you do any other crafts or do you have another hobbies?
As miniatures takes up a lot of my time I do try and get out of the house to enjoy the countryside we live in. We have many stately homes we like to visit and enjoy seeing the paintings and art pieces in them. A favourite place near us is 'Snowshill manor' which we visited 5 times in the first year we moved here. I also attend an art group one morning a week so can either take my sculpting tools and clay or draw and paint.

All characters big and small. Rene' from 'Allo Allo' and a teeny tiny witch!

What are you currently creating?
I am creating a lot of mess sorting all my boxes from the Thame dolls house show and getting ready for the Miniatura dolls house show in 5 weeks time!!! *It was 5 weeks when interview was taken. I will no doubt be sculpting more different characters and making sure we are fully stocked!

What to expect to see on Kastle Kelm stall, here we have moody candles!

Wide range of characters and wonderful witchy goodies perfect for dolls houses and shadow box projects.

What future projects are you working on?
Future projects!!!! Well there are so many going on in my mind I have a book to keep all my ideas down in writing. At the moment though we are trying to improve our table for shows and making packing and unpacking an easier task!!

What fairs can we find you at this year?
We are attending Spring and Autumn Miniatura, Kensington Christmas doll house festival. Sadly we wont be at the summer Kensington. Also for the first time we hope to do the fairly new Burford dolls house fair as this one is not far from where we live now.

Do you do commissioned work?
As a whole I haven't taken on a lot of commissioned work but I am open to ideas for future work.
