Witches of Northamptonshire, a Witchy Wednesday article.

Image
Welcome to another Witchy Wednesday, this week I thought it would be nice to re-share pages from the 1866 phamplet which describes the history of the Northamptonshire Witches in 1612.  The Northamptonshire Witches The persecution of witches has a long and bloody history; this illustrated book by Gary Poole and Karen Stokes (below) gives a graphic account of Northampton's history of witchcraft through the ages - from magical rites in the prehistoric era to 1951 when the Witchcraft Act was repealed in Britain.  Christianity deemed all witchcraft as heresy and the Church aimed to stamp it out completely. Using a variety of documentary sources, this book unearths Northampton's witchcraft history to give many fascinating accounts of the punishments meted out to those accused and convicted of sorcery, as well as many myths and superstitions, some of which are still followed today. This book should prove a spellbinding read for anyone with an interest in the history of Northamptonsh...

The Hairy Hands of Dartmoor! A Witchy Wednesday article.

Image
The Hairy Hands of Dartmoor is a ghost story/legend that built up about a stretch of road on a remote area of Dartmoor in the English county of Devon. On this stretch of road has been reported an unusually high number of motor vehicle accidents during the early 20th century! Please visit this links for more in-depth information on the ghostly Hairy Hands! https://www.bbc.co.uk/devon/discovering/legends/hairy_hands.shtml https://www.haunted-britain.com/the-hairy-hands.htm https://www.bitesizedbritain.co.uk/the-hairy-hands-of-dartmoor11/ https://visitdartmoor.co.uk/myths-and-legends/ https://www.legendarydartmoor.co.uk/2016/03/25/hairy_hands/ Because of the nature of folklore stories I would always recommend visiting all links before showing younger viewers. Witchypoo Kat Makes 🌙✨🌙✨🌙✨🌙✨

Image
As some of you know not only am I a lover of Witch folklore, stories and history I love to weave Witches into my craft work. This was the main reasoning as to my nickname 'Witchkraftingwithkat' a sort of play on my love of Witches, my name Kat and the combination of crafting, as in sticking, gluing, painting and of course spell making!  Whilst I am busy designing and making new creations this month I thought it would be nice to showcase some of my past 'Katmakes' especially those influenced by my love of Witches and spell making! ✨ These Witchy themed pendants/ornaments were made on MDF shaped background base and then decorated with a mixture of MDF/Wood shapes, texture pastes, embossing techniques, paper, glitter and paints.   Mostly made for enjoyment, I do sometimes give some away to friends and family. These small pieces of craft art are really fun to make and a good way to try new ideas and showcase crafting techniques and also express my love of Witches and a...

Witchy Wednesday, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

"If I cannot inspire love, I will cause fear" is a famous quote from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The creature says this to Victor Frankenstein as a warning about his intentions. The quote appears in chapter 17 of the novel. Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (August 30, 1797 – February 1, 1851) born Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, is renowned for her classic thriller, Frankenstein. Her work crossed several genres, including essays, biographies, short stories, and dramas. Happy New year, Witchy Wednesday's are back!.

Mother Carey and her Chickens!  Happy new year to you all and welcome back to more Witchy Wednesday's! It will probably take me a few weeks to get back in the full swing of things again so I apologise if for the next few Wednesdays my articles are not as packed as normal but it is nice to be back and I am very much looking forward to spending another year sharing stories, links, art, information and the history of Witchcraft, Folklore and Cryptozology.  To get you started here is a lovely article on Mother Carey and her chickens! As I often spend new years with a visit to the seaside it seemed appropriate to share an old folklore tail involving the sea! https://www.metrofieldguide.com/folklore-nature-mother-carey-and-her-chickens/ She’s the mother o’ the wrecks, ‘n’ the mother Of all big winds as blows; She’s up to some deviltry or other When it storms, or sleets, or snows; The noise of the wind’s her screamin’, ‘I’m arter a plump, young, fine, Brass-buttoned, beefy-ribbed you...
