Returning to Kettering Museum for Witch talks and poppet making

Image
I loved the exhibition at Kettering Museum so much I just had to return last weekend. They had a marvellous workshop of poppet making with Jo Archer and first Bard of Northampton Donna Scott gave very interesting and entertaining talks on the trails of Northamptonshire witches plus general information on why these trails took place. The whole day's event finished with a production from 'don't go into the Cellar' entitled 'The Witching hour' at the Alfred East Art Gallery. This was a selection of creepy stories read by a Victorian Gentlemen in a spooky atmosphere of candle light and the sounds of howling winds! All of these events were free, I got to take home my poppet, even got a glass of wine at the evening event.             Exhibition at Kettering Museum.           Wall of local stories of Witchcraft.  Having a go at poppet making with Jo Archer. Thank you to Jo for her patience as I scooted in...

The magic of Michael R Miniatures!

Image
I am very fortunate to know so many wonderfully talented artists and regard many of them my friends. One of my youngest friends and up and coming new artist is Michael Robbins. He is a very talented young man in the arts both as craftsman, painter and also dancer! Definitely one to watch! I was very lucky to grab him during his busy schedule for an interview. How long have you been doing miniature making and what got you into making miniatures especially the type of miniatures you specialise in? I’ve been making Miniatures for around 4 years now I think. As a collector I have always loved collecting unusual and quirky things and one day I thought maybe I could give this a go myself... so I did! What spurred me on the most was a wonderful box gifted to me by the very talented Nikki Rowe that was filled with clays, tools, oils and lots of things I could use to get me started. It was a huge help in getting me motivated and a great starter kit for me! What do you like making the ...

Interview with Julie Campbell Doll artist.

Image
I have known Julie Campbell for a number of years and have always love seeing what wonderful new characters she creates. Julie specialises in 1:12 scale dolls, each one is created by hand with exquisite detail. The work that goes into each character is a tribute to Julie's craftsmanship and passion. How long have you been doing miniature making and what got you into making miniatures especially making character dolls? I've been making miniatures all my life in one way or another! When my children were small I was given a dolls house for Christmas and that started me off again. I really wanted some beautiful dolls but couldn't afford the ones I wanted so I found a book in the library about miniature doll making and decided to give it a go! What characters do you like making the most? Without a doubt ghosts! I just love anything spooky and have great fun thinking up tragic stories to go with my ghostly characters. Also they glow n the dark which gives them an added ...
