Witchy Wednesday, The Witch Stone of Great Leighs

Image
The Witch Stone just outside the carpark of the local pub. THE WITCH OF SCRAPFAGGOT GREEN! October 1944 the village of Great Leighs in Essex was plagued by ghostly goings on. A military base nearby (reported American) had removed a large stone boulder in the area of Scrapfaggot Green to widen the road. Unknown to them this stone was known locally as the Witches Stone! This stone was reportedly the burial place of a local witch who in some reports was burnt the stake for murdering her husband! Local stories suggest that removing and disturbing her remains disturbed her spirit which caused all sorts of spooky goings on and upset the villagers.  Eventually the villagers insisted the stone be replaced! To this day part of the stone is still there and is left alone According to articles in the Sunday Pictorial of 8 and 15 October 1944, the village of Great Leighs (Essex) was being plagued by nocturnal accidents to livestock, tools scattered, bells ringing, etc. They said it was because ...

Witchy Wednesday, Burn the Witch!

Image
Hell everybody well it's Witchy Wednesday again! I told you they are flying past faster than a witch on her broomstick! ๐Ÿงน๐Ÿ˜‚ Well I am currently working on some new tutorials and doing some witchy studies which I am hoping to start posting next week.  Todays Witchy Wednesday posting is actually a pop video. This one I would recommend you watch before showing children. But I tend to advise that anyway on all links I post as it's an individual thing. Personally at age 10 I was into reading about monsters  and sneakily watching Hammer Horror films so this video would have amused me! But then for me it wasn't, and still isn't, vampires ghosts and monster that frighten me! Plenty more scarer things in the real world!๐Ÿ˜ฌ  Please visit link ๐Ÿ”— for Radiohead-Burn the Witch. The video is very creative and those of a certain age will recognise the characters!  https://youtu.be/yI2oS2hoL0k

Witchy Wednesday, real witch history.

Image
Welcome to another Witchy Wednesday! Don't they come around quicker than a Witch speeding on her broom! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Quite scary how quickly this year is speeding along. As I type it's the 16th of May and my bluebells are nearly all finished for this year. Luckily I recently planted some wild flower seeds and I noticed little green shoots so fingers crossed my little garden will burst into more flowers! I promise to blog about my garden another day and the little handmade fairy furniture I am making for it.  Anyway for todays 'Witchy Wednesday' I found some informative videos on YouTube about the real history of Witchcraft which I hope you will also find interesting. Please remember to watch and make your own judgement before showing children. Personally I was quite a grown up child and loved folklore and could handle a degree of horror! But some of these subjects may not be suitable for younger or more sensitive viewers.

Witchy Wednesday, Witches & Imps!

The Wick Witch and her Imp by Kat Hazelton 2023. In rain and shine they would walk collecting herbs and berries Both of them would have some lunch of nicely ripened cherries. They collected lots of fungi all gathered in a basket. Some of which was deadly and could put you in a casket! Magic water from the stream to purify the blood. A magic stone with a hole that was found hiding in the mud.  Pieces of string that they could knot or unravel. Acorn cap and egg shells to aid in long distance travel.  Sticks and dry moss collected for the fire. All and all a successful gathering, time to head home and retire. Making a miniature Maypole

Image
Merlin blessing the Maypole How to make a miniature Maypole  You will need a stick, a large holed steampunk cog, ribbons or braids, a metal crown and a wooden base. Glue the cog to the top of your chosen stick, I used a driftwood stick.  Then glue on your crown on top of your cog for decoration. Leave glue to set. Once dried tie on your chosen ribbons or braids. I did six, what ever you do I would recommend an even number. I left the little tie offs for decoration. I glued my Maypole into a wood slice pendant that actually had a hole already for hanging as a pendant. But you could drill a hole.  Then for ornamental effect wrap your ribbons around the pole or you could try some mini Maypole dancing though I recommend a few pairs of hands for this!
