Gosh I have never known so many shops selling Halloween themed items during summer or Summerween as I am now calling it. For me personally I am a 24 hour, 7 day a week, 12 months a year Halloween girl or is that ghoul? So for me it's very exciting!πŸ€ͺ But I know for some this Summerween is a bit of a new thing and might bit confusing?! Mind you even with my mindset I might need to remind myself it's only August and not October! πŸ˜† Some of the summerween items I spotted in the shops so far! Beetlejuice arrives at Primark stores! πŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ€πŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ€πŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ€πŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ€πŸ’šπŸ–€ Halloween at Primark stores Spooky cushions at Homesense.  Spooky ornaments at Homesense Even pets have their own spookies at Homesense.  Lots of spooky goodies at Hobbycraft. Beautiful selection of Halloween ornaments, chocolates and sweets at John Lewis.  More Halloween at Hobbycraft! Please note I do not get any financial gain by mentioning these shops. Pity that would be nice! πŸ˜† I just like to share with you what I ...

British Goblins, a Witchy Wednesday article.

British Goblins: Welsh Folk-lore, Fairy Mythology, Legends and Traditions, by Wirt Sikes; 1880; London: Sampson and Low. British Goblins: Welsh Folk-lore, Fairy Mythology, Legends and Traditions (1880) For this week's Witchy Wednesday I found, on my internet travels, an online copy of 'British Goblins: Welsh Folk-lore, Fairy Mythology, Legends and Traditions' by Wirt Sikes. Introduction as written on The Public Domain Review's website.  In  British Goblins  (1880) Wirt Sikes, the United States consul to Cardiff from 1876 to 1883, describes the mythology and legends of Wales, a land steeped in folklore. Considering its geographic focus, why the book is not simply called Welsh Goblins remains a mystery.) The first section of the book concerns the fairies, which are known as “y Tylwyth Teg” in Welsh, meaning the fair folk or family. They come in five varieties: Ellyllon (elves), Coblynau (mine fairies), Bwbachod (household fairies), Gwragedd Annwn (underwater fairies)...

Black dogs in folklore!! A Witchy Wednesday article.

Image
For generations, people around Britain have passed down stories of mythical black dogs that haunt their communities. Steeped in history, religion and superstition- sightings of the dog can be a sign that something dangerous is going to happen.  In our modern lives where truth and fiction can blend all too easily, do these black dog legends show us how our ancestors dealt with troubled times? BBC video by Howard Timberlake.  As with all folklore stories some content within these videos may not be suitable for small children.  Black Dog vlog by Mythical Factory.  Thank you for reading, if you enjoyed my article please tune in next week for another Witchy Wednesday with me Kat Hazelton.  🌿🌸🌿🌸🌿🌸🌿🌸🌿🌸🌿🌸🌿Some website links listed may contain Adult material which may not be suitable for children so I would advise visiting them before showing or allowing access to younger viewers.🌿🌸🌿🌸🌿🌸🌿🌸🌿🌸🌿🌸🌿

This week we look at the 1838 copy of 'Tryal of Witches'  Please visit the link below the excert to see the entire copy of this fabulous piece of English history on the Internet Archive website. Excert from book written in original text. This Tryal of Witches hath lain a long time in a private  Gentleman's hands in the Country, it being given to him by  the Person that took it in the Court for his own satisfaction ;  but it came lately to my hands, and having perused it, I found  it a very remarkable thing, and fit to be Publish' d ; especially  in these times, wherein things of this nature are so much  controverted, and that by persons of much Learning on both  sides. I thought that so exact a Kelation of this Tryal would  probably give more satisfacti...

Accusations of being a Witch, a Witchy Wednesday article.

Image
The following letter was published in a number of New England newspapers in 1737, and recounts the witch trial of an older lady in Oakley Bedfordshire, England. The wording is an extract and is written in original text. THE VIRGINIA GAZETTE January 20, 1737 "Extract of a Letter about the Trial of a Witch. Oakley, Three Miles from Bedford Sir, The people here are so prejudiced in the belief of Witches, that you would think yourself in Lapland, was you to hear their ridiculous stories. There was not a village in the neighborhood but has two or three. About a week ago I was present at the ceremony of ducking a witch; a particular account of which, may not perhaps be disagreeable to you. An old woman of about 60 years of age, had long lain under an imputation of witchcraft.; who, being willing (for her own sake and her children's) to clear her self, consented to be duck'd; and the parish officers promised he a guinea, if she would sink: The place appointed for the operation , ...

Trolls!

Image
Trolls and not the fairytale type!  Sadly yesterday I got Trolled on Instagram! A rather unpleasant experience and not one anyone should suffer. No one should bully you for having an opinion, threaten or make unkind comments towards you. If they do report them and block them! Personally I don't engage with them, though sometimes it is hard not to tell someone exactly what I think of them with plenty of swear words added! 🀣 But unfortunately Trolls love that so it's best not to! They feed on the negativity! They are sad creatures really!!! They have no joy or happiness! So if any of you get an Internet Troll keep calm, report, delete and then just think how much better a person you are and how sad they must be sitting all alone under their negativity bridge! πŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ™ŠπŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ™ŠπŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ™ŠπŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ™ŠπŸ™ˆπŸ™‰
