Witches Sabbath by Claes Jacobsz Van Der Heck!

Blimey is it June already?!!!! Where has time gone? Well as we approach that very special date of the Summer Solstice this month I thought I would post some images and links to interesting witchy things! And you cannot get more witchy than the fabulous painting of the Witches Sabbath oil painting by Claes Jacobsz Van Der Heck 1663. Within the painting there are so many characters and symbols of what we regard today as typically Witch related. If you click on the link below it will take you to the actual image of the painting and you can zoom in to see strange creatures, cats, and even witches on brooms! The RIJKSMUSEUM, the museum of the Netherlands, also has many other interesting artwork available online to view so it's well worth a virtual visit and maybe a actual visit once covid restrictions are eased.

A couple of images from the painting showing witches cat, cauldron and strange creatures!
