Long Meg and her Daughters
Firstly Springtime greetings to you all. It is so lovely to see the return of lighter evenings and spring flowers. Also for me the thoughts of places I would like to visit either for the first time or as a returning visitor.
One of the places I would love to revisit again is Long Meg and her Daughters.
Local legend claims that Long Meg was a witch who with her daughters, was turned to stone for profaning the Sabbath, as they danced wildly on the moor. The circle is supposedly endowed with magic, so that it is impossible to count the same number of stones twice, but if you do then the magic is broken.
Long Meg and Her Daughters is a Neolithic stone circle situated north-east of Penrith near Little Salkeld in Cumbria.
