Witchy Wednesday back to school!
Welcome to another Witchy Wednesday. Well as I type on a Monday morning I can hear car door slamming, some tears and enthusiastic children running up the road to start a new term at school! Summer holidays are now over and the ever changing wheel starts rolling towards the Autumn. Though the weather at the moment suggests not quite yet as it is a barmy 27 degrees! So possibly a few more days or weeks of summer to enjoy. But with schools heading back, mostly, it's no surprise that Sky TV has been playing Harry Potter Films all weekend. This brings me to this weeks fun Witchy Wednesday topic magical schools the most famous example is of course 'Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry' often affectionately called by it's shortened name 'Hogwarts' which is located in a magical location in the Scottish highlands. This beautiful castle is the main location for most of Harry Potter books and films with stories woven into school term adventures. There is also Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches in the Worst Witch series, in the TV series ' Wednesday' Wednesday Addams attends the Nevermore Academy and in the more creepy Netflix original 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina', Sabrina Spellman divides her time and academic career between The Academy of Unseen Arts, for witches and warlocks, and Baxter High School, a regular school for mortals! And these are just a few examples! The world of magical schools runs through many tv programmes, cartoons, films and books. But it's not just in children's literature and TV programmes that magical schools reside. In The Witcher, definitely a more adult themed book and TV series, it features magical schools including Aretuza an all girls school where Yennefer of Vengerberg hones her magical craft. But studying is not just for children! In Bedknobs and Broomsticks a 46 year old lady called Miss Price, played beautifully by Angela Lansbury in the movie, attends a correspondence school and is a student of a Professor Emelius Browne!
Correspondence School Noun: a school that teaches non-resident students by mailing them lessons and exercises which upon completion are returned to the school for grading.
Miss Eglantine Price becomes a very proficient witch and uses her skill to help the war effort during world war two. A film if you haven't seen I highly recommend especially for the magnificent ending!
