Happy New year, plus Witchy Wednesdays returns in 2024

Me visiting ancient stones across the country from the iconic Stonehenge, the beautiful stones of Avebury, the spooky Rollright Stones, atmosphere Castlerigg in Cumbria and the magical stones of Long Meg and her daughters near Little Salkeld.

Happy new year and welcome back to more Witchy Wednesdays.

For those of you new to my blog page my name is Kat Hazelton I have always been fascinated in folk tales. As kid I was always obsessed with all things weird and wonderful from stories about witches, fairies, mythological monsters, ghostly encounters and strange creatures found in rivers and at sea!

As a child I loved to spend long hours reading up about these subjects and visiting places of historical interest with my family and later on my own as an adult.

This fascination with all things strange and magical has travelled along with me from childhood into my adult life influencing my craft work, both professionally and personally. A lot of my craft work and art is definitely influenced by the love of the weird and wonderful! I have also broaden my knowledge in these subjects by self studying, researching online, attending zoom talks and purchasing second books on witchcraft, local folklore and cryptozoology. I also achieved two diplomas, one in Wicca and Witchcraft and the other in Kitchen Witchery. Both of which were incredibly interesting and fun to do.

Witchkrafting with Kat

I have blogged for many many years in fact probably since the invention of blogger! Yes I am that old! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Firstly as a way to advertise my craft business then over the years it's become more about sharing my love for my hobbies and interests. As my main blog 'Krafting with Kat' was more craft based I decided to start a new blog 'Witchkraftingwithkat' in 2018 as an alternative platform to post articles and share links on my love of the weird and wonderful! Posting about my visits to Museums and historical sites, telling stories about folk characters, advertising events up and down the country and sharing my love of folk art.

So I started off travelling up and down the country taking photos and videos, visting Avebury, The Rollright Stones, Stonehenge, the wonderful historic city of York, and the magical wonderment of Mother Shipton's Cave. I also travelled to Burley to find out more about Sybil Leek, a real witch who lived in the New Forest in the 1950's. I also travelled up north to Lancashire to do the Pendle Witch trial visiting the Pendle Museum and buying myself a rather wonderful broom from Witches Galore in Pendle. I also went to several exhibitions Spellbound at The Ashmolean at Oxford and The Witches of Northamptonshire at Kettering.

Sadly in 2019 I lost my dear doggie companion followed shortly afterwards by my Dad which totally knocked the wind out of my sails! Those who have been through loss will understand that this is an understatement! So my hobbies got side lined for a while.

Then Covid struck!

Being stuck in several very long lockdowns and becoming ill myself my folk travels had to be put on hold. So while some people panicked over being told to stay at home and not to hoard toilet rolls I took full advantage of my unexpected house arrest to read my books and take the opportunity to attend online talks, lectures which because of the endemic were generously put on by various specialist groups, museums and libraries. Eventually everything went back to a resemblance of normality after covid I decided to get myself more organised with my blog articles researching at the weekends and posting mostly on Wednesdays and I got my 'witchkrafting' mojo back! A very kind friend of mine made a lovely comment about how she enjoyed my posts and always looked forward to my 'Witchy Wednesday's'! Loving her compliment and rather catchy wording it became my official header!

Now a few years down the road 'Witchy Wednesday' has become a regular feature here and on my Instagram page. And even though I never really expected anyone to read my wafflings it seems I do have a following. I was even featured in the 2023 Summer edition of The Strollers Tale zine which is a great honour and very flattering.

So a big thank you for those of you who have been faithfully traveling along with me and for those of you new to my weird and wonderful world I hope you enjoy my future postings and become a regular visitor and friend.

See you all next Wednesday!

Have a magical week ✨

I would therefore recommend visiting all links and checking them yourselves before showing to younger children.
