🎃Happy Halloween final day for 13 Day's till Halloween! The Pumpkin King!

Image
Happy Halloween everyone!  🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 Today's final Halloween 'Kat Make' is about the most iconic symbol of today's Halloween the pumpkin and of course the Pumpkin King himself!  This really easy to make mixed media scene was made from a MDF ATC(artist trading card) and Pumpkin Fool character from Calico Craft Parts  https://www.calicocraftparts.co.uk/ Firstly I covered the whole ATC with Windsor and Newton Galleria modelling paste https://www.winsornewton.com/uk  which I applied with a spatula creating simple flame like shapes. I then added my Pumpkin guy. The sculpting paste also acts as glue. Once dry I painted the flames with metallic golds, bronze, coppers and reds. I then painted my Pumpkin King a beautiful copper/gold. To finally finish off I glued on some very appropriate Halloween wording.  Well I hope you all enjoyed my 13 Day's till Halloween I hope it inspires you to have a go at mixed media crafting yoursel...

Day 2 nearly there! 13 Day's till Halloween.

Welcome to today's Kat Make for '13 day's till Halloween. Number one being the big day!  Today 'Kat Make' is about brewing up some mischief in a big old cauldron!  ✨🐈‍⬛✨🐈‍⬛✨🐈‍⬛✨🐈‍⬛✨🐈‍⬛✨🐈‍⬛✨🐈‍⬛ This really easy to make mixed media scene was made from a MDF ATC(artist trading card) from Calico Craft Parts  https://www.calicocraftparts.co.uk/ and cauldron and frog which are from my craft stash. Firstly I glued on the cauldron MDF shape directly onto the ATC. To create the bubbles and potion brewing in the cauldron I used nuvo drops. Once the nuvo drop had hardened I painted the ATC, bubbles, and cauldron with a mixture of Cosmic Shimmer pixie powders. I then painted my frog shape and used nuvo drops to create his details. To edge the ATC and cauldron I used gilding glue and gilding foil.  To finally finish off I glued on my frog, some tiny stars(nail art) and appropriate Halloween wording.  Well I hope you enjoyed today's make my last Halloween 'Kat mak...

Day 5 and 4 of 13 Day's till Halloween!

Image
Welcome to day 5 of my 13 Day's till Halloween, 1 being the big day itself! This 'Kat Make' is all about the world of the weird where strange monsters live and everything will either bite you or try to slurp your brains!!!!!!  All the MDF shapes are from Calico Craft Parts and the whole scene is made on a MDF square beer mat.  It's a very simple make, I painted all the MDF shapes with a base coat of white paint. I then painted them with bright acrylics in pinks, purples, yellow and bright greens. I then painted the beer mat with base coat of black paint then added splashes and random strokes in matching bright acrylic paints. Once dry I assembled and glued into place( I used Uhu glue). Then to finish off I added some Halloween wording which I cut from a sheet of Halloween phrases from Creative Expressions (creative sentiment sheets called Trick or Treat).  Welcome to today's Kat Make for '13 day's till Halloween. Number one being the big day!  Today make i...

Day 6 of 13 Day's till Halloween 'Frankie'!

Image
Welcome to today's Kat Make for '13 day's till Halloween. Number one being the big day!  ⚡💡⚡💡⚡💡⚡💡⚡💡⚡💡⚡💡 I have always had a fascination with Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein since I read my Mum's beautifully Gothic illustrated copy as a small child. I always felt so sorry for the monster and realised as at a young age that the humans were the monsters not the monster they created!  This mixed media scene was made from a MDF ATC(artist trading card) a Zombie and fabulously detailed ribcage all from Calico Craft Parts. Firstly I painted the ATC with bright coloured acrylic paints. I then painted Frankie and the rib cage with black acrylic paints. Once dry I added some details with a white Posca pen. I then glued the MDF shapes into place, I used Uhu glue. To finish I added some spooky wording. Please visit Calico Craft Parts for the shapes I used and also check out their Christmas ones! https://www.calicocraftparts.co.uk/   Well I hope you enjoyed today'...

Welcome to day 7 of my '12 Day's till Halloween. This one is based on making magical potions!  This mixed media Kat Make was made using a MDF ATC (artist trading card) and MDF spell jars all from Calico Craft Parts. I began by painting all the mdf shapes including the ATC with Cosmic Shimmer Pixie powders. To add details I used nuvo drops. Witchy Wednesday Vintage postcards.

Image
Welcome to another Witchy Wednesday. This week I thought I would share my love of Vintage Halloween postcards. These colourful cards were often embellished with beautiful drawings of Witches, ghosts, pumpkins and other Halloween characters in humourous or sometimes rather bizarre situations were very popular during the Victorian period and right up until the 1920's. The introduction of the telephone eventually phased out this most adorable of traditions as instead of sending postcards people would communicate via the telephone. Though there has been a more recent trend in sending Halloween cards and postcards thanks to hobbiest and crafters who make homemade cards to send to friends or sell at fairs.  Here is a really informative video I found on YouTube.  Here are some I especially like.  Here are some interesting links about the history of Halloween postcards. https://www.lovetoknow.com/home/antiques-collectibles/antique-halloween-postcards http://allhallowsar...

Hanging Skeletons tutorial by Kat Hazelton.

Image
Inspired by the amazingly beautiful glittery Skeletons on Tim Holtz Instagram page  https://instagram.com/tim_holtz I thought I would glitz up some of my sad looking ones with some paint and bling.  Firstly I painted my plastic skeletons with a base coat of white acrylic paint. Once dry then painted them with black light neon acrylic paints. To soften down the colours I added some matt white acrylic.  Once dry I sprayed them with Tim Holtz Resist Spray and tapped on some glitter.  I decided not to cover all of the skeleton as I wanted some of the paint to show through so I only sprayed them around the ribs and partially on the hips and head.  I decided I wanted my Skeletons to be more creepy than pretty so I  encased my skeletons in fibres to give them a webbed old mummified look. You could use pretty threads, cotton, string, wool, strips of fabric or real bandages! To stiffen your threads or material use either pva glue or Mod Podge.   To ...
