Then dip about 1/4in or 1cm of the handle into tacky glue. Lay the handle on the bristles and gently bring the bristles around the handle. Making a miniature Wizard hat.

Image
Leather wizard’s hat  This is an old tutorial I did many many moons ago even though it's a bit basic I thought it would be nice to reshare. 😁 You will need Paper, ruler and pencil/ or pen to draw hat pattern Scrap of soft leather Old paintbrush or wooden stick  Sharp scissors Tacky glue Fluffy trim Charms, etc. to decorate. Instructions 1.  Firstly you need to make your hat paper pattern.  The measurements are 2-1/14in from point to base, and also 2-1/4in wide from side to side at the widest part. Draw this onto paper and cut out. Now use this paper pattern as a guide to cutting your leather. Keep your pattern piece as you can reuse it. Fold around your leather so the ends meet and glue together into a cone shape, leave to dry. Then, run a line of glue around the bottom and glue on the fluffy trimming. 2.  Dip the old paintbrush or stick into tacky glue and line the inside of the top of the hat. Witchy Wednesday, Witches and their familiars

Image
It's Witchy Wednesday again! That flew around as quick as a witch on a broom.  This week I thought the subject of Witches familiars seemed an interesting one to look into. Especially as even now we as Cat and Dog owners do tend to treat our furry friends as family and rightly so! So why wouldn't Witches do the same! Especially when disowned by family, friends and neighbours their furry friends were even more important for companionship. So this is in honour of all familiars both big and small fluffy or feathered!  In European folklore of the medieval and early modern periods, familiars (sometimes referred to as familiar spirits) were believed to be supernatural entities that would assist witches and cunning folk in their practice of magic. Here are some links to some interesting articles on Witches and their familiars  https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/stories/familiar-spirits-and-devilish-imps https://www.britannica.com/topic/familiar   https://www.museumofcambrid...

Long Meg and her Daughters

Image
Firstly Springtime greetings to you all. It is so lovely to see the return of lighter evenings and spring flowers. Also for me the thoughts of places I would like to visit either for the first time or as a returning visitor.  One of the places I would love to revisit again is Long Meg and her Daughters. Local legend claims that Long Meg was a witch who with her daughters, was turned to stone for profaning the Sabbath, as they danced wildly on the moor. The circle is supposedly endowed with magic, so that it is impossible to count the same number of stones twice, but if you do then the magic is broken. Long Meg and Her Daughters is a Neolithic stone circle situated north-east of Penrith near Little Salkeld in Cumbria.

Happy St Patrick's Day and Irish Folklore

Image
Firstly Happy St Patrick's Day to you all. I hope you all have a joyous and lucky day🍀 Ireland being an ancient country has a huge history of myths and legends passed down for thousands of years from generation to generation. There are a myriad of wonderful tales of fairies, witches, magical creatures such as the very famous Leprechauns and haunted lands. Many of these stories have deep meanings and give cautionary advice. Though some folk stories have sadly become lost over time the Irish Myths and Legends, like those of Celtic throughout the UK, a lot have become woven into modern day traditions and even been used for inspiration for movies, theatre productions, books, songs, and the arts and crafts.  Here are a few links on Irish myths and legends🍀 https://www.connollycove.com/irish-mythology/ https://www.wildernessireland.com/folklore-of-ireland/ http://www.irelandsmythsandlegends.com/ https://emeraldisle.ie/the-pooka https://irelandwalkhikebike.com/irish-folklore-and-le...

Witchy Wednesday Hag Stones in my garden.

Image
My collection of Hag Stones which I have collected over the years.  My collection of Hag Stones, also known as an adder stone, is a stone that has a naturally occurring hole through it. Such stones were, and still are, believed to have magical properties they have been used for healing, protection, wishing spells and generally kept for good luck. Hanging over and on doors and windows bring protection from witchcraft, over your bed will protect you from nightmares and by looking through one you might see into the fairy realm or see through the disguise of a witch! A handy tool indeed! Plus they look beautiful!
